National Hunt racing returned on 1st July, but really got going on Monday 6th with a good card at Uttoxeter and it saw the return of three of the yard’s long-standing high-class performers, with Shantou Village lining up in the handicap hurdle and The Young Master and Doing Fine contesting the listed “Summer Cup” chase.

It was great to see two of the three hitting the frame with Shantou Village going to the front at two out before Mister Universum finished strongly to take the lead at the last.  Although Shantou Village also lost 2nd near the line, it was nice to see him back in the frame after a break of nearly two years since he won a chase at Worcester.  He has been unlucky with a couple of unseats in the intervening period and hopefully, this good performance over hurdles will be a confidence builder for his upcoming races.

In the Summer Cup, the Young Master grabbed the lead early on and he jumped well out in front showing plenty of exuberance.  He was headed five out and lost second three out, but he never stopped staying on all the way to the line to hang on to third.

In behind, Doing Fine struggled to go the pace set by his stablemate, but as he does so often, he was doing all his best work at the end of the race coming through the field to eventually finish 5th, beaten only 9 lengths.  With the benefit of this outing, he is sure to run well in staying chases in the next few months especially if he can be found a suitable target on a track with an uphill run to the line where his strong race finish will be shown to best effect.

Doing Fine is owned by the Neil Mulholland Racing Club and you could share in his future success as an owner.  Membership is £150 per month and full details can be found by selecting “Ownership & Costs” and then “Racing Club” from the menu above.

It is great to see the horses running well now that we have a return of national hunt racing and hopefully this will see the yard have some winners in the coming weeks.
