Racing Return On The Horizon?

It is hoped that this update finds you well and that you have not been badly affected in heath or financial terms by the current situation.

Whilst the priority at the moment obviously has to be given to public health, there are some positive signs emerging regarding a possible return to racing in early June and hopefully, that would also allow for jump racing to restart in July.  Fingers are crossed that things continue to progress in the right direction and that racing gets Government go-ahead for a restart in a couple of weeks.

As much as it was disappointing to lose the end of the 2019-2020 jumps season, it was still good to note that the yard hit 50 national hunt winners and with 14 more winners on the flat and in Jersey, it was a pleasing year in terms of the performance of the horses.

The new paddocks that have been created have some great grass and this is being enjoyed by the horses that are having a summer holiday ahead of the next winter national hunt season.  Despite this, the yard and gallops are still busy and with seven weeks before the projected return of jump racing, the good ground horses are already back from their break and starting to build their fitness to make sure that they are ready to race at or near the restart.

It is great to be able to report that the building work at the bottom end of the yard has now been completed and when larger numbers of owners visit their horses in the future, they will be able to make use of the new improved owners' room and facilities in the new building.

Obviously, the current situation has been a tough time for everyone, but with a positive mindset and approach, it has provided the opportunity to work on some areas that may not have got to the top of the priority list otherwise.  Things like the new paddocks and the new building will be a huge benefit to the yard, the staff, the horses and their owners for the longer term.

There are still another few weeks before the yard will be having regular runners, but all involved have continued to work hard to ensure that the horses will be in good condition to perform at their best level when they do return to the track and despite the uncertainty ahead, there are reasons to be optimistic when looking ahead.
