It has been great to see some spectators back on the racecourse and that has really added to the atmosphere at the races.  Summer is a slightly quieter time in the yard, but only slightly as there are still plenty of summer jumpers in training, some runners on the flat and the usual long list of jobs to do.

More work is going on at the bottom of the yard where a new barn is being built in the area that was previously occupied by the small sand school and paddock beyond.  The paddocks that were fenced last year in the centre of the field where the flat gallop is located are getting plenty of use with various runners having the summer holiday and enjoying the excellent Spring grass in that area.

There have not been so many runners in recent weeks and so not as many winners to report on as is often the case in these updates.  Brief Times ran a cracker to win a bumper at Ffos Las on his debut for the yard at the end of May and it is great to see several exciting younger horses coming through at a time when many of the former stable stars are edging towards retirement.

Sam Twiston-Davies rode Brief Times, and it was good to be able to give Robbie Dunner another winner when Carolines Charm returned from a break to win at Fontwell in a small field on 30th May.

It has been a quiet start to the month of June with just a few places from our runners until yesterday when No Fixed Charges ran a cracker at Market Rasen drawing away after the last for a nice win.  It was two of our jockeys fighting the finish as Tom Scudamore on No Fixed Charges got the better of Sam Twiston-Davies on the favourite.

No Fixed Charges was in the colours of the Neil Mulholland Racing Club, and we recently took the decision to retire Doing Fine who has delivered some great successes for the club in recent seasons.  Doing Fine has given the club members some great days (and some welcome prize money!) and he will be missed by all.  The good news is that the plan is that he will stay at the yard in retirement, so visiting club members will still be able to feed him a carrot or two!  The mare Deputy Jones will be racing in the colours of the club in future and hopefully will still provide members with plenty of success.  Details of how to join the club are available on the club page which can be viewed by selecting “Ownership and Costs” and then “Racing Club” from the menu above.

We are lucky to have Cumberwell Park a few minutes drive from the stables and as a result, we have decided to put together an owners’ golf day on Friday 27th August.  More details of this will be sent around shortly, but if you own or part-own a horse at the yard and you play golf, please keep the date free!
