Thursday Treble Caps Four Win Week

A great week for the yard with four winners including a Thursday afternoon treble.

It is strange how these things can go in cycles and after considering ourselves unlucky not to have recorded at least a couple of winners in the preceding days, we suddenly had four winners from seven runners between Tuesday and Thursday!

Things were kicked off when Fr Humphrey got up to win a veteran's chase at Huntingdon.  This is a new race series started this winter and looked ideal for Fr Humphrey.  It is a series for conditional jockeys and has a £50,000 final at Newbury in March for those that qualify.  Although he only needed to finish in the first eight to qualify for the final (and with only six runners at Huntingdon that meant just finishing the race was enough), Fr Humphrey did it in style with Harry Reed getting him up in the final half-furlong to win.  A handicap rise of 3lb leaves him on a nice mark for the final and gives the BG Racing Partnership shareholders something to look forward to as we head into the winter season.

The winners kept coming on Thursday with three of them over the course of a great afternoon for the stable. 

Sleep Easy kicked things off in the opener at Taunton.  We knew that he had enough quality to win as long as things fell his way and with Tom Scudamore on board, he plugged on gamely to see out the victory.  Just over an hour later, La Cavsa Nostra made the long trip up to Sedgefield worthwhile when he recorded a fairly comfortable win under Robbie Dunne and Runasimi River almost delivered the treble at Taunton, finishing second and only beaten by a neck.

That only postponed the three-timer celebrations by half an hour though as Tom Scudamore recorded his second win of the afternoon for the yard on Walt.  It was a drawn-out battle from the second last between Walt and his Philip Hobbs trained, Richard Johnson ridden rival Brother Tedd, with Walt really running on gamely to get his head in front.

Walt has been a great servant to owner Phil Simmonds, winning a big race at Kempton back in February and we were delighted to see him back in the winner's enclosure.

With Fingerontheswitch also recording a second-place finish on Friday, narrowly failing to deliver our 5th win of the week, our runners seem to be in fine form and hopefully, some more wins will be just around the corner!
