Flying Start To Season

What a start it has been to the 2022-23 jumps season as we are only halfway through May and we have already celebrated seven winners!

On top of those, there have been more winners in Jersey.  Long-time supporter of the yard, Mike Burbidge, loves to have runners over there in the summer and we have made a flying start to their summer season with most of the runners that have gone over, coming back as winners.

Many of you will remember Noel Fehily who rode numerous winners for the yard when he was a jockey.  Well, it seems that he is still delivering winners for the yard as Rookie Trainer is owned by Noel Fehily Racing Syndicates and he was our first UK winner of the new season when he won at Worcester on the 5^th of May.  Kevin Brogan was in the saddle as the season got off to a great start.

We only had to wait until the 11^th of May, for winner number 2 and number 3 followed right behind.  It was the next Worcester meeting when Ballymilan really put her head down and battled to a win.  Sam Twiston-Davies was the man delivering the power-packed finish and it was Thomas Doggrell who brought home Masterdream for winner number three later on the card.  It is always special to record a double on the day, but we went one better with a double-double as there were another two winners the very next day!

They came at Fontwell where Mothill justified odds-on favouritism to win a novice hurdle.  He did it very well and Tom Scudamore did not have to work too hard on this one.  It became five winners for five different jockeys later in the day as Adam Wedge got in on the act when Carolines Charm belied his market position as the outsider of three runners to record a comfortable win.

Proving that runners from the yard will travel anywhere for a win, two winners at Fontwell were followed the next day by one at Aintree! 

Exelerator Express put in another battling performance to just get up on the line with Sam Twiston-Davies having to produce another strong finish on this one!

After his previous two winners for the yard, Sam must have been grateful to finally get on a winner that did not need a photo when he also steered home Ragamuffin to win on 15^th May at Stratford.

There is a lot of season ahead, but a fast start is always good and we have certainly had one of those. 

Here’s hoping that the runners from Conkwell Lodge can keep up this momentum in the coming days and weeks.
