We managed to record five more winners before the official end of the Jumps Season last weekend.  To be strictly accurate it was five more wins as opposed to winners as they were delivered by three horses, with Maliboo and Sainte Doctor winning twice each.

Sainte Doctor got the ball rolling back on the 29th of March when recording a comfortable win at Uttoxeter with Richie McLernon, (retained rider to owner JP McManus) in the saddle.  She made it back to back wins 20 days later at Plumpton running on well for Richie again to make her record three wins, two 2nd places and a 4th place from six runs in the season and she has certainly been a consistent mare in handicaps.

Whilst on the subject of consistent mares, we also had two wins from Maliboo.  On 30th March at Wincanton, Maliboo only had to overcome one rival and she did so by 27 lengths with Kevin Brogan in the saddle.  She followed up just four days later at Hereford providing Kevin with another winner and taking her record to four wins and a 2nd in her last five runs. In those races she won two chases and two hurdles, proving her versatility.

The other "end of season" winner was another of our JP McManus owned horses, Rock on Rita.  She was another winner for Richie on the 20th of April and it was a significant win for the yard as it ensured that last season’s total of 62 winners was matched before the season closed.

When the season officially closed last weekend at Sandown, it showed a Trainers Championship placing of 26th with 62 winners.  This is the joint 2nd highest number of winners that the yard has recorded in a single season.  Purely based on the number of winners (the Championship is prize money based) we would have been inside the top 15 and that is a great credit to the whole team at Conkwell Lodge who work hard all year round to deliver success for the yard and our owners on the racecourse.

Thanks to them, to all our owners and to our yard sponsor, Bet UK for all their support which plays a big part in our success.

There is not much time to rest on our laurels though, as after only a few days break, the 2022-2023 season springs into life and we all start again, chasing winner number 1!
